Statement on Documentary Certificate Program Pause
No applications accepted for 2021
We will not be accepting applications for the Certificate in Documentary Filmmaking for Spring 2021. With the retirement of Nina Seavey, founder of the Documentary Center and the Institute for Documentary Filmmaking and considering the extraordinary circumstances we are facing, we must put the program on hold for one year.
The Columbian College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Media and Public Affairs recognize the extraordinary work of Professor Seavey whose energy and vision has made this program such a success. An Emmy winning documentarian, Professor Seavey founded the Documentary Center in 1990. Through the Institute for Documentary filmmaking, the center has trained over 500 documentarians over 30 years. This is an incredible legacy. We thank her for her leadership and wish her all the best as she leaves GW to devote more time to her exciting new project My Fugitive.
During the 2020-2021 academic year, the College, in conjunction with the leadership at the School of Media and Public Affairs, will be working on a plan for the next iteration of the Institute and its certificate program.
